I want silliness, I like fun, I need entertainment

As not so keen a movie-goer, I don't like to spend 2 hours straining my brain or put my nerves on test. Serious thinking is not the reason I pay 10 bucks to sit in the dark; seeking entertainment and relaxation is. By this standard, Tom Cruise's new box office flop, Knight and Day, is a very worthy movie to watch. It is funny, it is silly, and, it is very entertaining.

Heard of it when paying attention to summer movies. Our first choice was Toy Story III. Went to see it on the opening weekend and were surprisingly touched. Somehow saw the trailer of Knight and Day and also got amazed at the untiring good look of Tom Cruise. He looked very handsome and charming in the trailer. But that's only a slight flash of thought that did not linger long enough to really trigger our interest to go into cinema for it.

As fate would have it, when our friend offered us a "parents' night out" to do something without kids, say, watching a movie, Knight and Day came to mind. To my another surprise, only less than two months after its opening, it became a movie hard to find. Berkeley downtown has three theatres clustered within two blocks, all together more than 10 movies were playing; but none of them carried Knight and Day. Well, it just increased our interests even more, especially when none of the other movies seemed appealing enough for us to buy tickets.

There is never anything impossible when one sets heart to do it. Although only 2 theartres in 30 miles radius around our home still had it, we found a chance to go to one. Sadly enough, there were only three groups with about ten people in total, our girls included, in the show room. Cannot help but wonder what was wrong with Cruise. Never realized that he was so out and down in popularity. Only afterwards research enlightened me with the reason, his beliefs, his public behaviors (this is so absurd, he was so elated in light of love, that's quite human and natural, why people did not accept that?).

The movie itself is all expected, good man, bad guy, pretty girl, plot in plot that makes no one look trust worthy, car chasing, foreign country views, some chemistry between the two leads......you name it, nothing you had not seen before. Yet it was very very entertaining. It did not mean to be serious at all. Sometimes viewers could sense the self satire of the movie makers and, with good humor, had a good laugh out of it. What's more, Tom Cruise is still very deliciously good looking, almost charismatic. He is not the young heartthrob any more, but every line on his face seems to develop in a way that enhances his charm. I had a liking of him for many years, but had never before been so attracted. He is no longer merely a pretty face for the eyes, he can be a person that makes others to like him from their heart. Oh, man, I was enchanted; all the more surprising by such a pure commercial, and unsuccessful, movie.

I like the movie very much, though I never liked Cameron Diaz. She is simply not my cup of tea. The movie is very relaxing. Movie makers did not intend to dare the viewers in any way; they just did their best to please the audience. This worked perfectly well with me. You knew there was going to have this or that, but you had adequate interests to follow how they carried everything out; in the mean time, you did not suffer any suspension or anxiety or discomfort or any negative feelings, just being amused. What more can a movie goer asks for when one just needs some relaxation and a temporary escape from the pressure of daily life?

I will give it two big thumbs up; and two heart shaped eyes for Cruise.
